I admit, we’re blown away by the OLED displays we’ve seen. Organic Light Emitting Diodes are able to light up without a backlight. It’s just what they do when a charge is applied to them. They’re extremely thin and very impressive. You’ve seen the tiny Sony TV with the big price tag. Maybe you have the new Zune with an OLED screen. Without a backlight you save on battery and you also make a really thin product. We’ve seen OLED screens with a video image but no backing…so you could see right through it! We’ve also seen flexible OLED screens. How about that PMP you can roll up? But, I still need to be convinced that the life span of OLEDs has come far enough along to justify the investment. We’ll see a lot more in the OLED world at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. In the meantime, you might find some of the stories fascinating and amusing at this OLED site.
