Here’s a nice concept. Come out with a line of consumer electronics that are ridiculously simple to install and use. No Geek Required products include a wireless router that simply installs in one minute, and a video to DVD dubbing system that’s ready to go in no time. Instant productivity, no heavy lifting, easier for the store and for you. I guess that’s why you’ll soon see their product line in places like Target and WalMart. For a little company just starting out, that’s a big deal.

The question- is your date a dud? Well, now, there’s an app for that! DateCheck, with the slogan “Lookup before you hookup,” takes the name of your date and a little other info and instantly runs a background check. We gave it a try during CES with a demo from the company behind it. Criminal history? It’ll tell you with its “Sleaze Factor” rating. Taxes he pays on his house? It’ll tell you. Number of bathrooms in his house? It can tell you. Is he already married? Yep, in fact it’ll tell you the name of the other person in the house. A free app, with free info, from the folks at Intelius. They’ve been allowing people to peer into our public records for years. So, of course, if you want to find out even more about your date the app will offer even more in-depth info for a fee.

Motorola has a hit with the DROID. At CES they introduced the BACKFLIP. That screen you’re looking at does NOT close like a cover over the keyboard. Instead it flips back. So, when closed, one side of your phone is a keyboard and the other side is a touchscreen with a soft keyboard available. Pretty clever. Also, when opened, the screen is above the keyboard BUT on the back of the screen is a touchpad! Drag your finger behind the screen to make things happen on it.

Running notes during Sony press conference at CES. Sony kicks off their press event with Jimi Hendrix in 3D. Then they follow with Taylor Swift in 3D….hey, that’s not 3D…she’s on stage! Taylor also shown in 3D while performing to demonstrate the excitement of concerts in 3D. Cool! New TVs shown, and an Internet Appliance (did I say that?) called Dash. All kinds of content delivered to this little desktop unit. News in a Dash, sports in a Dash, Dr. Oz in a Dash, get it? Movies and more for $199. I’m now trying out 3D gaming…now THIS is neat! PSP3 can get firmware upgrade to do 3D. Introducing Sony Reader Special Edition. Dow Jones content, Chicago Tribune, too. Sony camcorders will now use SD as well as Memory Stick! Wow, now that’s news. New prosumer camcorder with full 1080p HD. Mpeg4 camera called Bloggie…reminds me of Webbie, but we’ll learn more. Now I’m watching the Alice In Wonderland 3D trailer on a Sony TV. Creepy, Tim Burton! Introducing new Vaio. Made partly from recycled CDs and DVDs. No printed manual. Case it comes in made from old plastic bottles. Sony announces 3D partnership on 3D network. Sony, IMAX, Discovery 3D. Another 3D partnership with CBS. Also talk about FIFA Cup soccer in 3D on ESPN and golf. New Bravia 3D TVs and 3D comes to OLED…and they promise to get that super-thin price reduced.
